At Dutch Design Cufflinks all products are handmade from high quality materials such as silver and gold by a professional goldsmith. For this reason the products of Dutch Design Cufflinks are subject to specific terms and conditions.
Handcrafted
Due to the fact that the products of Dutch Design Cufflinks are handcrafted they may be subject to subtle differences in size, weight and finish. Thus the client may receive a pair of cufflinks that are slightly different from the picture on the website. These differences will not be noticeable under normal use.
Materials
The silver used by Dutch Design Cufflinks is sterling silver. Sterling silver consists of 92,5% silver and 7,5% copper.
Silver is subject to change in surface colour and will eventually tarnish. The tarnishing (change of color) is usually caused by hydrogen sulfide in the air. This is a natural process during which a chemical reaction takes place between the silver and the hydrogen sulfide. In order to minimise the tarnishing process we recommend you to store the cufflinks in the box we provided at shipment. We also advise you to store the cufflinks in dry areas, humidity affects the silver and makes it dull.
Tarnishing can also occur as a reaction of silver on substances that come free from our skin. Food, alcohol, use of medication and perspiration can affect the acidity of the skin. Silver reacts differently on each persons skin, so the tarnishing process of the silver will differ for each person.
The gold used by Dutch Design Cufflinks is 14 or 18 carat gold, depending on the wishes of the customer. Golden cufflinks are not in stock and will only be handcrafted on request. Also for golden cufflinks we recommend you to store them in the box we provided at shipment. Gold tarnishes the least of all metals.
Defect
Cufflinks are delicate products and have to be handled with care. You have a warranty if the product breaks during normal use and you have complied to the conditions of upkeep/care as described below. Your warranty expires if there are clear signs of non-delicate use, for example, broken or bent parts due to dropping, non-proper storing and the placing of heavy objects on the cufflinks.
Your warranty expires if you, or someone else than Dutch Design Cufflinks, has repaired or made modifications to the product.
Upkeep of the cufflinks
Before the silver turns dark (tarnish) it quite often shows some yellowish spots. It is advised to then clean the cufflinks with lukewarm water mixed with a little bit of a very mild soap, a soap without chemicals. To get the dirt off, a soft brush can be used.
Always treat the cufflinks with care to avoid scratches or other damage. Regular cleaning of the cufflinks will keep them beautiful. When cleaning avoid touching the silk threads and the rubber used in the cufflinks.
If the cufflinks eventually have a layer of tarnish on them use a liquid silver cleaner. Pay attention: only use silver cleaner that is specially made for jewelry (not for cutlery) and always read the instructions on the package. Use the silver cleaner only with a very soft cloth, or cotton ear cleaner, and use as little as possible. Do not let the silver cleaner touch the silk threads or the rubber used in he cufflinks.
It is also possible to use special silver cleaning cloths. These cloths are soft and impregnated with chemicals that make the cleaning very easy. However if the finish of your cufflinks is matt, do not use the silver cleaning cloth. In that case it is advised to use lukewarm water, mixed with a mild soap, and a soft brush. Avoid the silk threads.
Unfortunately tarnishing will always appear at one time or another but there are a few tips to minimise the process:
- Safely store your cufflinks in the box we provided during shipment. Make sure no other objects are stored in the box that may cause damage to your cufflinks.
- Small sealable plastic bags can also be used to store the cufflinks, and being almost airtight, prevent them from tarnishing. Do not put two cufflinks in one bag – use two. After placing them in the bag you can store the bags in the box we provided.
- Do not store your cufflinks in moist areas such as bathrooms, high humidity will make your cufflinks dull.
- When using perfume, body-lotion, hand-lotion and/or aftershave please avoid direct contact with the cufflinks. We recommend you apply these products before you wear your cufflinks.
- We recommend you take of your cufflinks during all cleaning activities in which you may come in contact with cleaning solutions, abrasive powders, chemical substances, or any other activities that may damage the cufflinks in any way.
- By wearing your cufflinks they will always be subject to change. Highly polished cufflinks will become more matt while wearing them and matt finished cufflinks will become more polished. This does not diminish the quality of your product. Instead it gives it character and makes it an unique object.
By wearing the cufflinks a lot they will remain the most beautiful!
