About the designer
At Dutch Design Cufflinks all products are handmade. Liliane Winkels is a professional goldsmith, a Dutch jewelry designer and creator, active for over 10 years. At Dutch Design Cufflinks she designs and oversees the hand crafting of each cufflink.
Liliane sells and exhibits her work in stores and galleries in both the Netherlands and the USA. She obtained her technical jewelers degree at the well know Dutch college Vakschool Schoonhoven. Liliane also has a degree in Interior Design from the New York School of Interior Design, and the Arts and Crafts College in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
About the process
All the jewelry is handmade in our own studio. The materials used are high quality silver and gold.
The Steps, the Classic, the Origin, the Elegant, the Pencil and the Branch cufflinks are casted using the Delft Clay Method of Casting, a well known Dutch sand casting method. For all these cufflinks a specific mold/model is used. After casting, the cufflinks are hand finished. In some cases the designer chooses to leave the irregularities visible on the cufflinks after the casting process – the rougher look giving the piece a unique character.
The other two cufflink designs in the collection, Tube and Print, are constructed. The pattern on the Print cufflinks has been obtained by rolling the metal together with a patterned material through a metal-rolling mill. The direction of the pattern and the pattern itself may vary on each pair of cufflinks.
Because all the cufflinks are handmade, they will vary from the representative pictures on the website, however the variations will be small. For example, the indentations on the Tube cufflinks may vary in placement. And as said before the pattern and the direction of the pattern on the Print cufflinks may vary.
About other possibilities
It is possible, on request, to have the cufflinks shown made in gold, however the sale price (price on request) will fluctuate with the market price of gold.
Furthermore is it possible to have cufflinks specially made ‘for you only’ or as a gift for a special person! Dutch Design Cufflinks can design and make customized cufflinks and will work with you on a unique design.
